I chose to work on this volunteer platform to address the challenges people face in finding local opportunities, especially in cities like Barcelona.
By connecting volunteers with nearby roles and helping organisations find quality volunteers, the platform simplifies giving back to the community.
My goal is to launch it in Barcelona and eventually expand across Spain, making volunteering more accessible and impactful.4o
I conducted market research on volunteering platforms, including NGO sites, general directories, and travel-focused options.
NGO websites, which often focus on specific causes but lack centralised access to diverse opportunities. I also reviewed established volunteering directories, noting gaps in user experience, such as limited search customization and outdated interfaces. Additionally, I examined travel-focused volunteering platforms that cater to adventure-seekers but rarely address local or skill-based volunteer needs.
This highlights the potential for a platform that consolidates diverse opportunities with improved accessibility and usability.
I conducted detailed user research to understand the needs, preferences, and challenges faced by volunteers when searching for opportunities.
This involved gathering insights into user behaviour, pain points, and desired features. I compiled these findings into a structured framework to prioritise functionalities for the MVP, focusing on essential elements like intuitive search filters, clear role descriptions, and easy application processes.
Using Figma and its AI plugins like QoQo and UX pilot.ai, I mapped essential functionalities for launch, like user-friendly searches and clear role descriptions, while identifying advanced features for future iterations. This approach ensures the platform addresses core user needs while maintaining scalability.
I designed user journeys and flows focusing on the core experiences of finding and applying for volunteering opportunities. Using insights from user research, I mapped out streamlined pathways to minimise friction, ensuring clarity and ease of navigation. These flows prioritise simplicity and efficiency, laying the groundwork for a user-centered platform that addresses the most essential aspects of the volunteering process.
I developed wireframes and prototypes to outline the platform’s core functionality and user interface. These initial wireframes focus on essential features, such as browsing opportunities and submitting applications. The prototypes are currently being used to test workflows and gather user feedback, which will guide further refinements and ensure the platform evolves to meet user needs effectively.
